Senior Business Director, TM Deposits Strategy & Pricing

Job Description

At Capital One, we're building a leading information-based technology company. Still founder-led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Fairbank, Capital One is seeking to help our customers succeed by bringing ingenuity, simplicity, and humanity to banking. We measure our efforts by the success our customers enjoy and the advocacy they exhibit. We are succeeding because they are succeeding.

Guided by our shared values, we thrive in an environment where collaboration and openness are valued. We believe that innovation is powered by perspective and that teamwork and respect for each other lead to superior results. We elevate each other and obsess about doing the right thing. Our associates serve with humility and a deep respect for their responsibility in helping our customers achieve their goals and realize their dreams.

About the Group:

The Commercial Bank Treasury Management (TM) Deposits Strategy & Pricing team manages pricing strategy for deposits and TM services holistically. The team is part of the TM Go-to-Market team within the Commercial Treasury Management group and is in-charge of horizontal foundational and strategic work that form the basis of deposits growth and optimization strategies.

The work in the team spans four key areas:

Deposits Valuation and Pricing - The team is focused on establishing foundational understanding of key segments, their economics, drivers and levers in the Commercial deposits business through the full rate cycle. The team develops/enhances valuation frameworks and pricing methodologies in partnership with the internal treasury department that are intended to drive overall business goals and Sales actions - these are implemented into tools and leveraged across the Commercial bank for any deposit valuation and pricing. Additionally, the team manages the exception pricing process and supports ad hoc complex pricing needs.

TM Valuation and Pricing - The team is responsible for managing pricing and profitability of the full TM suite. The team innovates across pricing approaches (to meet both simplification and digital adoption goals), determines product costing assumptions, and drives repricing (annual and event-based) events as part of book profitability reviews and optimization exercises.

Growth and Optimization Strategies - The team is in-charge of determining optimal value-based pricing strategies for both back-book and front-book. Analytic projects supporting this involve developing / refining segmentation that inform client price sensitivity, attrition risk, and acquisition desirability as well as an extensive test and learn agenda. Additionally, the team partners with Segment Go-To-Market, Product and Sales organizations to draw insights and build business cases to define the product roadmap towards building market leading client value-propositions.

Responding to Macroeconomic Shifts - In the past 5 years, the Fed has implemented several upward and downward interest rate changes. The team is tasked with building multi-year rate and product response strategies through leveraging competitive research, portfolio and segment analysis, extensive scenario analysis and ultimately client response and performance analysis. Analysis approaches also encompasses Machine Learning methods.

Given the importance of Commercial deposits to the overall Commercial P&L, the team works on high-visibility projects across the TM value-chain, with significant executive leadership interaction. Additionally, since deposits and TM cuts across multiple Commercial LOBs, the team also interacts and collaborates with several teams including other Marketing & Analytics teams, Product teams, Finance, and Sales.

Capital One's unique business advantage derives from its dedication to rigorous analysis and strategy, inherited from Founder and CEO Rich Fairbank. Commercial strategy & innovation is a critical component of this advantage and is helping to chart the Company's path forward by working closely with technologists, data scientists, and designers to upend old models of banking and transform the industry.

About the Role:

The Treasury Management (TM) Group is seeking high-performing self-starters eager to disrupt traditional modes of banking and define the future of Capital One. Directors will lead and contribute to the development of credible, data-driven recommendations within multiple collaborative strategy case teams. Hires are expected to be inventive problem-solvers both comfortable addressing ambiguous questions and executing sophisticated analyses. They will manage multiple projects and present their findings and recommendations to senior leaders, with whom they will be thought-partners. Successful Directors will have the opportunity to work closely with a variety of partner teams, including Data science teams, finance teams, technology teams, risk management teams, and product management teams.

The Director of the TM Deposits Strategy & Pricing team will lead a team of 4 associates which will grow to ~10 during Fed rate changes. In this role, she/he will build an in-depth understanding of Deposits and TM value drivers, and partner across the TM value chain to advise on and drive acquisition and backbook management strategies. She/he will also be responsible for streamlining the operating model and driving major improvements in overall capabilities and infrastructure in the deposits and TM valuations and pricing arena.

Additionally, the Director is uniquely positioned over time to gain experience in and eventually lead the full horizontal scope of the TM Go-to-Market team.
