The Washington Post has an immediate opening for a Senior Producer to work on producing programs for our live news platform, Washington Post Live. We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking, and creative senior producer with a proven track record of outstanding editorial judgement and experience in booking high-profile guests. This producer will be crafting the editorial and driving the booking for compelling interviews featured on our digital and live platforms.

We are seeking someone who is a proven go-getter with excellent editorial judgment; someone who can take on the rigorous demands of daily production and embraces working as part of a cohesive team. The ideal candidate has an extensive rolodex, highly developed relationship-building skills, and a drive to initiate and continue extensive outreach for guests across a wide array of sectors. This position requires high energy, strong organizational skills and pleasant persistence. You must be detail-oriented, collaborative and able to work under pressure while meeting multiple daily deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and recommend impactful programming topics and guest spots by drafting multi-segment program proposals for the executive producer to review. Topics can include politics, technology, entertainment, gaming, cultural issues, healthcare, business & the economy, matters of equity, questions of policy.
  • Find opportunities for Washington Post Live programming to highlight the Post's newsroom coverage by collaborating with editors and reporters.
  • Report, research and produce editorial and visual content of segments.
  • Ensure our moderators conduct high quality interviews by discussing the arc of the interview and providing accurate research and poignant question suggestions.
  • Attract audiences and set the stage for interviews by scripting compelling copy for intro videos.
  • Deliver multi-platform dissemination of our news content and engage potential audiences who access news on Twitter by writing and posting tweets live during assigned programs.


Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience producing programs
  • Experience in a professional newsroom in national or major media market preferred
  • Experience in broadcast or other live programming, including script writing and crafting interview questions
  • Knowledge and passion for current events, politics, and cultural stories shaping the national conversation
  • Strong research, writing and production skills
  • Proven record of solid editorial judgement and booking high-profile guests
  • Flexibility to work an extended schedule as deadlines require
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Experience producing video/taped pieces a plus
  • Social media skills preferred
  • Understanding of the current digital landscape of live streaming preferred
