Clarification from the agency Open to US Citizens. Help DutiesThe Executive Director provides leadership and direction over day-to-day operations of FHWA programs and managers. Components of the FHWA include business units providing policy direction in the areas of innovation deployment, planning and environment, infrastructure, transportation operations, safety, and Federal Lands, as well as assistance and support on policy and legislative issues, strategic planning, civil rights, financial integrity, research and technology, transportation education, and management services and systems. This position reports directly to the FHWA Administrator. The Executive Director administers FHWA programs including: * Implementing strategies and programs that advance deployment of innovation which supports the mission and purpose of FHWA in partnership with stakeholders at the state and local level including the private sector. * Advancing environmental protection and enhancement, comprehensive intermodal and multimodal planning, and fair and prudent acquisition and management of real property. * Planning, developing, and implementing Federal-aid and Federal Lands Highway, pavement, and bridge programs and engineering activities including those of design, construction, inspection, maintenance, asset management, and innovative financing. * Providing national leadership for the management and operation of the surface transportation system, including intelligent transportation systems (ITS), congestion relief, and the development of an intermodal approach to freight operations and travel management. * Identifying highway safety needs, developing and promoting nationwide programs to enhance driver and roadway safety, and improving traffic operations on the nation's streets and highways through traffic engineering and technology transfer and deployment. * Developing, implementing and coordinating policy and program planning systems including the identification of program needs, establishing intermediate and long range goals, and coordinating highway program development to meet transportation needs through the FHWA Strategic Plan. * Promoting partnerships with the states and local governments along with many other elements of the surface transportation community. Promotes intermodal transportation initiatives. * Developing, implementing and coordinating a comprehensive: financial accountability and integrity program ensuring the effective operation of budget processes, proper utilization of and accounting for FHWA's resources, and an up- to-date information on the status of program and program funds.Help Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a US Citizen.
