Duties

  • You will support and maintain a highly responsive, customer service focused and driven IT service in support of programs, projects and goals.
  • You will provide technical advice to management on effective and achievable life cycle planning, monitoring and maintenance for IT systems.
  • You will independently troubleshoot problems and implement changes in systems.
  • You will recommend utilization of existing software in the incorporation of software projects to reduce redundancy of code and increase overall efficiency.

  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 411 within 12 months of appointment.


Qualifications

For GS-09 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Maintaining the software used in computers, computer networks, and computer-aided design interactive graphics devices; 2) Supporting client and server computers, various operating systems, and office automation applications; 3) Installing computer systems including workstations, laptops, computer networks and other computer systems; and 4) Providing hands on troubleshooting and/or repair of existing systems.

For GS-07 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Integrating operating systems for lab/electronic classroom clients or similar environments; 2) Assisting to install operating systems, application software and hardware for classrooms, labs, etc.; and 3) Assisting with management of network accounts and/or administrator privileges to accounts.

Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Determine when problems are software or hardware related.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Provides technical advice to users who are working on programming, interactive graphics, or other computer-related projects.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Participates in hardware and software vendors user groups to exchange information with other computer professionals.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Determine the nature of problems, apply corrective action and refer related problems to appropriate personnel.

Education

GS-09 position: You may also qualify based on the following education:

Successfully completed a masters or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

OR

successfully completed 2 full years (36 hours) of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

GS-07 position: You may also qualify based on the following education:

Successfully completed 1 full year (18 hours) of graduate level education from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

OR

Successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, and my education has equipped me with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position as described in the job opportunity announcement.

Additional information

Physical Demands: Work can range from sedentary to significant walking and moving about the building and Academy grounds. Physical activity may include but is not limited to climbing, bending and carrying IT related items and test equipment. Must be capable of lifting 40lbs multiple times in a short period and lifting computer systems on and off shelves and carts, sometimes from overhead.

Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in an office setting. The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, dust, dirt, unusual odors, humidity and occasionally uncomfortable temperatures. Accomplishment of assigned duties may require the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours.
