Human Resources Specialist Summary/Objective The human resources specialist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting the organization. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, training, performance management, policy implementation, talent acquisition and employment law compliance. The primary objectives of this position are: Development of a superior workforce Development of an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and high performance Safety of the workforce Essential Functions Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains the employee handbook. Administers employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, suggestion programs, employee satisfaction surveys, newsletters, employee focus groups, one-on-one meetings, exit interviews and Intranet use. Performs analysis on workforce planning challenges to identify areas of focus for superior workforce development, key employee engagement, staff retention and succession planning. Recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation. Participates in the conduct of investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth. Advises managers and supervisors about the steps in the progressive discipline system of the company. Coaches managers on employment issues. Administers the performance management system that includes performance improvement plans (PIPs) and career/employee development plans. Assists with the establishment of an in-house employee training system that addresses the company's training needs including training needs assessment, new employee orientation or onboarding, management development, cross-training, the measurement of training impact, and training transfer. Complies with all existing federal and state laws including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Department of Labor, and so forth. Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, and smartphones. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel: about 15% travel required for this position. Required Education and Experience A bachelor's degree and three to five years of HR experience; or equivalent experience. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping. Effective oral and written communication. Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills. Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality. Excellent organizational skills.
