Sr. Manager, Design Ops, Communications and Strategic Initiatives (Enterprise Design)

At Capital One, we're building a leading information-based technology company. Still founder-led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Fairbank, Capital One is on a mission to help our customers succeed by bringing ingenuity, simplicity, and humanity to banking. We measure our efforts by the success our customers enjoy and the advocacy they exhibit. We are succeeding because they are succeeding.

Guided by our shared values, we thrive in an environment where collaboration and openness are valued. We believe that innovation is powered by perspective and that teamwork and respect for each other lead to superior results. We elevate each other and obsess about doing the right thing. Our associates serve with humility and a deep respect for their responsibility in helping our customers achieve their goals and realize their dreams. Together, we are on a quest to change banking for good.

As Experience Products and Platforms Design, we design products and platforms that inspire through integrated, personal, and delightful digital experiences. Our team consists of more than 100 designers, strategists, writers, researchers, and technologists who are solving key customer and associate problems in every LOB across the company. No two days in a row look alike for us, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We're looking for a world-class Communicator who can turn big ideas on a variety of topics into simple and engaging messages. Someone who knows their stuff about editorial calendar planning, can create internal content strategies to achieve specific goals, support a variety of leaders with different messages, and be our go-to person for managing a variety of channels and distribution lists. And above all, a content chameleon who can draft and deliver impact, no matter what the channel or who the audience. If this sounds like you, read on!

Who you are:

  • A storyteller, who understands that being a communications expert is so much more than crafting and reviewing emails
  • A team player who pitches in to help the entire team be better, stronger, and adaptable as we sometimes respond to unexpected needs
  • A strong writer who can adapt tone and personality to seamlessly shift between writing snackable copy, to team training decks, to informational emails
  • A creative problem solver with the ability to connect teams, workstreams, and ideas through a compelling narrative
  • Someone who approaches assignments from an audience-perspective, while also understanding higher-level business objectives
  • A project management whiz; someone who can stay two-steps ahead of a Comms backlog, and execute consistent delivery without sacrificing quality
  • A mad scientist who's not afraid to test and learn on their own to discover all-new channels and opportunities for innovation
  • A partner who can build effective relationships with people outside of our department, like HR and other communications teams

What you'll do:

  • Oversee all communications for Experience Products and Platforms Design (XP2):
    • Work with the XP2 Design Senior Leadership Team to create, manage, and execute communications strategies out to our department of around 100 designers
    • Manage and own the editorial calendar for XP2 Design, providing recommendations for highest impact and flagging overlaps
    • Analyze existing content, to identify clear opportunities for quality improvement
    • Quickly jump on communication opportunities as they emerge, and align to leadership vision
    • Experiment with new content channels, tools, and methods to support our audience's needs (for example, using Google Calendar to keep every associate informed on key dates)
    • Consult on creative ideas and new approaches for inspiring team connection and accountability across all of XD
    • Partner with senior leadership to establish critical messaging intent and cadence for ongoing communications
    • Drive the messaging and narrative of big team events throughout the year
    • Operate in 'modern news-room', where fast, snackable content is valued over week-long content reviews
    • Participate in hiring by reviewing resumes, conducting interviews and attending consensus

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years experience in Communications or Marketing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience in leadership consulting and strategy development
  • Experience supporting events or campaigns
  • Experience following brand and style guidelines
  • Be proficient in Google Suite
