Duties

The selectee will serve as an Intelligence Research Specialist (Protective) in the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information, Protective Intelligence and Assessment Division. Typical work assignments include:
  • Researching, reviewing, interpreting, evaluating and integrating all-source intelligence data, and other sources of classified and unclassified data, plans, or products pertaining to intelligence matters.
  • Maintaining an awareness of current intelligence information pertinent to the assigned geographic area, region or subject matter; applies facts and information and identifies trends that could potentially impact the mission; assessing complex data originating from various sources, both classified and unclassified; maintaining contact and close working relationships with employees and counterparts in other intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
  • Performing open-source intelligence research to identify threats and provide situational awareness for intelligence operations; preparing incident and situation reports and conducting briefings with the intelligence coordinator.
  • Preparing a variety of speculative-estimative finished intelligence products based on comprehensive analysis and evaluation of current intelligence received from multiple sources.

  • Submit to a polygraph examination prior to your appointment.
  • This position requires shift work that includes days/afternoons, midnights, weekend and holidays.
  • Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959.

NOTE: The person selected for this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

GS-09: You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $61,947) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing duties such as performing preliminary research, analysis, and evaluation of raw intelligence data based upon such factors as time span, and authenticity of technical detail and coverage; and preparing organized presentations of studies which are necessarily brief due to the uncomplicated nature of the specific intelligence, portions of larger studies as assistants to other specialists, or summaries of larger studies.

• Master's or equivalent graduate or
• 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or
• LL.B or J.D., if related; or
• A combination of graduate education and experience. This will be calculated using your résumé and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 level (starting salary $74,950) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level performing duties such as researching, reviewing and evaluating a high volume of classified and sensitive intelligence information, determining significance as it pertains to intelligence products; preparing a variety of speculative-estimative finished intelligence products based on comprehensive analysis and evaluation of current intelligence information received from multiple sources; performing open source intelligence research to identify threats and provide situational awareness for operations; and creating internal information bulletins on individuals or groups affecting intelligence interests, including facilities, events, and persons.
OR
• Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or
• 3 full years progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or
• LL.M., if related; or
• A combination of graduate education and experience. This will be calculated using your résumé and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.

Qualifications Must Be Met: The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the cut-of date of this announcement. This is an open continuous announcement. The first cut-off date for consideration of applicants will be April 11, 2022. Thereafter, the cut-off for applications received will be every other Friday of each month until the job opportunity announcement closes.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service.
