Position Information
Arlington County, Virginia, one of the most progressive local governments in the country, seeks the services of an experienced Cybersecurity Operations Manager. The Cybersecurity Operations Manager will provide leadership to the County's Security Operations team, a group of subject matter experts including interns, mid-career engineers, and senior technical staff. The position will report directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).

The Department of Technology Services (DTS) has been recognized as the top Digital County in its category for four of the past six years by the National Association of Counties (NACO). While the position will report to the Department of Technology Services (DTS), the Security Operations Manager is expected to collaborate closely with the senior staff of other County agencies, Commonwealth agencies, and Federal partners.

Responsibilities include:
  • Protect the integrity, confidentiality and availability of the County's information resources, data, and systems;
  • Provide technical expertise while guiding the administration of security tools that control and monitor information security;
  • Consult and collaborate with DTS and Department IT staff on developing secure and confidential technical solutions for business applications;
  • Recommend corrective technical options and revisions to IT security initiatives and policies to prevent future occurrences; and
  • Provide on-going subject matter expertise and supervision, development, motivation, and mentoring to assigned staff.
The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Certification in one or more Information Security professional tracks (SANS, ISC2, ISACA, EC Council, CompTIA, or equivalent;
  • Extensive and proven experience securing information security programs, systems, and applications; and/or
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and threats via professional groups, trade publications, internal and external training, independent research, and study, etc.

Selection Criteria
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems management, or an equivalent;
  • Significant and progressively responsible experience directly related to managing an organization's information security programs and technology; and
  • Experience should also demonstrate competencies in managing cyber security issues, project management, and working with emerging technologies.
Substitution : Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.
