Job Description:

This individual is responsible for coordinating all facets of the International Baccalaureate program as it relates to the IB requirements and ACPS district goals by: (1) clearly communicating the vision and goals of the IB/MYP organization; (2) sharing in the development and implementation of the IB and division-level interdisciplinary curriculum and assessment; (3) coordinating and delivering ongoing school-based professional development through horizontal and vertical articulation; and (4) acting as a pedagogical leader for the IB school/campus. Together with school administration, the coordinator will maintain contact with subject area leaders/curriculum specialist, subject departments and teachers, and with the IB. All IB correspondence is addressed to the coordinator.

Please note: This is an 11 month/216-day position

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Experience: Job-related experience is required. Prior experience in MYP teaching and pedagogy preferred Knowledge and belief system in international mindedness. Coaching, staff development, or trainer experience

Essential Functions:

  • Keeps up to date with and informs all staff of developments and new publications.
  • Set up systems for communication with the entire professional staff to ensure cooperation in implementing the programme in the school.
  • Be able to communicate with the IB offices in English, French or Spanish.
  • Involve a team (implementation team or steering committee) in both long-term and short-term planning within the school.
  • Circulate to teachers and students all relevant information received from the IB.
  • Ensure that all regulations set by the IB concerning the programme and all procedures are adhered to properly and that all deadlines are met
  • Oversee the implementation of the areas of interaction (approaches to learning, community and service, health and social education, environments, human ingenuity) according to IB guidelines.
  • Oversee the implementation of the published subject-specific assessment criteria.
  • Ensure that the concepts of international awareness and international-mindedness permeate all subjects.
  • Provide teachers and students with guidance concerning the personal project.
  • Maintain accurate school information via the IB information system (IBIS).
  • Ensure that the document entitled General regulations: Middle Years Programme is distributed to parents.
  • Communicate and collaborate at the division level with the lead MYP Coordinator and other school-based coordinators who are all part of the cluster model, or partnership, structure.
  • Establishing IB informational sessions for parents and the ACPS community
  • May perform other additional duties or tasks as designated by supervisor.


Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
