Classification & Compensation AnalystThe George Mason University Human Resources & Payroll Department invites applications for a Classification and Compensation Assistant. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About Classification & Compensation:The Classification and Compensation (C&C) team works to support the University mission through the development and implementation of policies, programs and practices that attract, compensate, retain and reward faculty and staff.About the Position:This position serves as an entry-level support role, and member of the C&C team within George Mason University's Human Resource & Payroll department. With guidance and supervision, the C&C Assistant provides administrative support to the C&C team in the development and implementation of a market-based staff compensation system and other special projects, as well as day-to-day operations.Responsibilities:Serve as project management support, to include coordinating with departments to collect up-to-date job descriptions, scheduling focus groups, and keeping the projects and initiatives on schedule; assist with branding, marketing, and communication of project goals and timelines;Support day-to-day C&C actions, to include, reviewing and approving job posting requests and/or remote work agreements, responding to requests for job descriptions, and electronic filing; maintain the general C&C email inbox to include responding to daily inquiries and routing requests as appropriate;Support annual performance review process by keying annual performance ratings; correspond with departments and units to request outstanding reviews as needed; and ensure appropriate and thorough documentation is properly maintained to support processes and procedures related to general salary increases, when increases are authorized by the General Assembly or University;With guidance and training, may interpret rules and laws concerning employee personnel actions; this position corresponds regularly with agency personnel staff, employees, supervisors and managers on various personnel related topics;May assist in performing other general human resources or personnel activities as they relate to C&C.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent;Basic knowledge of HR principles and practices including applicable federal/state laws/regulations governing compensation and employment;Effective interpersonal communication, including tact and diplomacy; adept at tailoring both oral and written communication based on the audience;Skill in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite (proficiency in use of Word, Power Point, and Excel);Efficient time and project support skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with considerable attention to detail and demonstrate data integrity;Skill in providing effective, quality service to internal and external customers;Ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion and professionalism; ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team; ability to meet deadlines; ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related field;Demonstrated experience in Human Resources with exposure to a variety of specialty areas;Experience with salary surveys and/or experience with market-based compensation systems;Demonstrated HR experience in a higher education or large public employer.
