Associate Director, Law & Economics Center The Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University, seeks an Associate Director of the Law & Economics Center who will take a leadership role in managing the daily operations of the Law & Economics Center (LEC).George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position: The Associate Director has supervision of the daily operations of the Law & Economics Center with management responsibilities to encompass organizational development initiatives, oversight of purchasing, budget, and finance functions, serving as organization lead for all staff recruiting, selection and onboarding efforts, assisting executive team in strategic planning, delivering training programs as needed, and has responsibility for office management duties such as supervision of the Event team and Communication team, as well as administrative assistants and student interns.About the Antonin Scalia Law School and George Mason University:The School of Law has two fundamental missions. Mason is Virginia's largest public research university, the largest producer of tech talent in the State, and the 25th most diverse public university in the country.Responsibilities: People Management / Human Capital ManagementServe as liaison to law school and University HR;Create or update position descriptions;Create selection tests that are applicable to the KSAs required for the position;Serve as Search Committee Chair for LEC open position searches;Manage the staff recruiting process to include external outreach;Organize the interview process for candidates chosen from the applicant pool;Onboard new employees;Periodically review compensation structure; make recommendations to executive team;Manage the 3-, 6-, and 9-month performance reviews of probationary employees to ensure fairness, accuracy, and appropriate documentation;Manage annual performance reviews of staff to ensure fairness, accuracy, and appropriate documentation;Create individual development plans as a follow-up to performance reviews;Design and deliver training programs for student interns for delegated tasks;Conduct training sessions for permanent staff to address identified needs;Annual review (or as need arises) of position descriptions to ensure organizational work is performed in most effective and efficient manner; andProvide performance and career coaching to employees.Financial / Office ManagementBudget oversight of office expenditures to include decision-making authority on proposed expenditures related to office management;Financial reporting to Executive Team;Possesses p-card authority for office purchases;Responsible for purchasing and maintaining office supplies;Negotiates the purchase of office supplies and furniture, office equipment, etc., for the staff in accordance with University and law school purchasing policies and budgetary restrictions;Oversees p-card and foundation credit card purchases of other staff for internal audit purposes;Oversight responsibility for Facilities to include office space allocation, office maintenance, and decisions about office access including keys, codes and building access;Propose schedule for, and calendar staff meetings;Prepare agenda for staff meetings; ensure follow-up for action steps identified in meetings; andDelegate responsibility for recording minutes of meetings and ensure that attendees receive minutes.Organizational DevelopmentConduct a management audit of internal operations, present results and provide recommendations to executive team;Compose, distribute, and analyze results of an annual employee satisfaction survey, provide feedback to employees and provide recommendations to executive team;Conduct a study of organizational climate, present results and recommendations to Executive Team; andUpdate organization chart as necessitated by organizational change. SupervisionSupervises the Event and Communications team;Supervises the work of the student interns, part-time, or volunteer staff;Supervises the employee who manages the reception area;Supervises the incumbent in the position that provides administrative support to the two Deputy Executive Directors and this position; andOversees the budget and data analytics work of the program and communication staff.Decision Making / Strategic Planning Facilitate an annual strategic planning session with Executive Team;Assist in writing the LEC's annual strategic plan;Work with each LEC department head to translate annual, broad strategic goals into measurable objectives and action plans for each division;Advise Executive Team regarding ways to ensure employee acceptance of annual strategic planning process and outcomes; andManage the strategic goal evaluation process to determine whether strategic goals are met, or whether mid-course corrections are necessary.Required Qualifications:MBA or equivalent combination of education and experience required or Ph.D. in business preferred (e.g., human resource management or strategic management) with some previous experience (generally two (2) years) at the senior level in organizational development;Experienced academic faculty member;Demonstrated experience in human resource management, strategic planning with executive teams, budget management, management consulting, development, delivery, and evaluation of educational/training programs, and data analytics;Prior human resources experience;Some higher education experience (generally three (3) years) required, with knowledge of university governance procedures through prior work experience in an academic setting;Working knowledge of executive development programs in an academic setting;Demonstrated knowledge of the personnel needs required for management of events tailored to judicial, legal, and academic audiences;Working knowledge of the role of academic research in influencing the public policy process;Proficient oral and written communication skills;Advanced planning and organizational skills;Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills;Skill in the use of computers and software, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel);Management consulting skills;Ability to manage relationships with internal and external service providers;Ability to work effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals; andAbility to support the mission and vision of the LEC.Preferred Qualifications:Ph.D. in business (human resource management or strategy).
