Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an editor to join its Global Opinions section and be part of our continued efforts to expand our international audience.

The editor will commission and edit pieces from journalists and foreign policy experts from around the world, work with existing columnists, and identify potential regular contributors to add fresh and innovative perspectives to our lineup. The ideal candidate should be a deeply motivated and experienced editor with a firm grasp of foreign affairs, a network of international contacts, and the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of writers, editors and contributors.

Global Opinions has become a destination for our international audience, as well as for U.S. readers interested in global issues.

The position requires an editor committed to freedom of expression and democratic values. Global Opinions is a platform for independent opinion journalism and the editor will be required to elevate and support international contributors facing risks and threats for their work.

The editor will be responsible for finding a diverse range of writers interested in exploring the interconnected political, social and economic dynamics influencing the most pressing international events. The Global Opinions editor will encourage columnists to produce sharp, original columns, with an emphasis on views from the ground, that meet our high editorial standards.

The editor will also need to know the latest digital tools and best practices to maximize the reach and impact of the columns, and be comfortable working with different formats and collaborating with The Post's audio, visual and multimedia teams.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

The innovation doesn't end in the Newsroom - dozens of teams power The Washington Post. We are now hiring the next innovator - how will you Impact Tomorrow?
