Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Financial Systems to perform technical analysis, design, and development or enhancement of applications based on user requirements in various technical environments. The ideal candidate should demonstrate expertise in a broad range of related technologies, guide other team members, and participate in setting Engineering's development standards and best practices. You will demonstrate a high level of expertise in all facets of the financial systems and often be involved in very large and/or complex assignments.

  • Gather and define business and technical requirements.
  • Write detailed specifications when appropriate.
  • Work closely with internal clients and external vendors.
  • Design, develop and perform unit testing on high-level solutions to meet business and technical requirements.
  • Research and stay abreast of available technologies.
  • Provide maintenance support and problem resolution.
  • May be assigned to very large or complex projects and assignments.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; focus in computer science, engineering, business, or related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant technical professional experience required including 2 or more years in a software development role.
  • Advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred. Certifications may include any of the following: Oracle database, Oracle Cloud Architecture, Oracle eBusiness Suite architecture, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or AWS Cloud Architecture.
  • Experience using Oracle RICEW or Oracle RICE.
  • Technical, functional knowledge on any combination of (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger or iExpense).
  • Experience with Oracle eBusiness Application Upgrades.
  • Experience with OIC or OCI is helpful.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a brand range of technologies (operating systems, database, programming languages, or other financial tools and technologies).
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team and independently. Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
