Westat is an employee-owned corporation providing research services to agencies of the U.S. Government, as well as businesses, foundations, and state and local governments. Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.
Westat has a new opportunity available for a Accounts Payable Specialist. Reporting to the Procure to Pay Manager, you will assist operations, support systems for purchasing, vendor invoice processing, vendor payments, vendor management, expense report processing and related activities. Your experience will be key as you help develop processes as we transition the existing purchasing and accounts payable team members to an integrated procure to pay operation.
This role is based in our Rockville, Maryland corporate office and is eligible to work remotely 2 days per week.
Job Responsibilities:
• Ensure accurate, timely, complete, and compliant processing of all related transactions including compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
• Maintain an adequate system of accounting records and controls for relevant areas.
• Support closing and reporting requirements including 1099 reporting and escheatment.
• Support the Procure to Pay Manager with internal and external Government audits including coordinating with auditors, preparing required items, and investigating findings and recommendations as applicable.
• Demonstrate sound business acumen and the ability to think analytically and identify/solve root causes of issues.
• Exemplify a progressive mindset through initiative, accountability, continuous improvement and collaborative problem solving.
• Solve business needs with appropriate technologies, products, or services.
• Epitomize professional credibility as a curious learner while being adaptable and resilient.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of 5 years of progressive finance and accounting relevant operations experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Solid knowledge of procure to pay processes and best practices, including latest technology, policies, and procedures.
• Strong Deltek Costpoint proficiency and working knowledge of Workday.
• Working knowledge of FAR and CAS.
• Experience standing up, designing new processes in a similar team environment.
• Experience managing annual transaction volumes in excess of 100,000.
• Experience with project management and system redesign.
• Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement approaches.
