The successful candidate will oversee nonfiction and fiction criticism and related news and feature writing, leading a team of prize-winning critics and editors as The Post expands the reach, scope and ambition of this vital coverage area.

The ideal candidate is a versatile and skilled editor who will uphold the intellectual rigor of Washington Post books criticism and coverage, while innovating and attracting audiences with new story forms. This editor must be a fresh thinker who can help shape deeply resonant essays, insightful reviews and imaginative approaches to service pieces that can help people decide what to read, buy and download. The successful candidate must also understand how certain kinds of books - particularly in Washington - make major news and shape the conversation. The role requires a commitment to innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit.

This position provides the opportunity to direct the future of books coverage and will work closely with the books team and the masthead on strategy. This role is one of at least three new positions we are adding to our books team this year as we bring together coverage of nonfiction and fiction literature.
