Senior Director, Enterprise Risk Management

Capital One's Enterprise Risk Management Team has responsibility for helping the overall organization identify, manage, and mitigate key risks that may keep the company from achieving its strategic objectives. Managing risk is for our businesses, our customers, our communities and our associates. ERM is currently hiring for a Senior Director to join its Risk Advisory & Oversight team. The Senior Director will have the opportunity to apply their risk management and analytical skills to some of our highest profile Risk Management projects, including implementing solutions to ensure Capital One's continued stability and success.

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is seeking a Senior Director to lead three critical programs:

New Product, Marketing & Initiative Governance (NPMIG): Key risk management process at Capital One designed to prudently manage the risks associated with introducing new, expanded, or modified products, services, practices or processes
  • Oversees NPMIG requirements and standards
  • Evaluates the program against internal and external requirements
  • Identifies and drives strategic opportunities to enhance the program
  • Partners with business areas to ensure appropriate local execution of the program
  • Manages audit and regulatory exams and requests
  • Acts as business owner for the NPMIG system of record, 1NET
  • Ensures Quality Assurance activities occur including the identification and remediation of key issues
  • Monitors the performance of the overall program against quantitative and qualitative metrics
  • Manages a team of 4 associates to execute the NPMIG agenda

Corporate Development and Growth Ventures: ERM plays a critical role in Corporate Development and Growth Venture activities, which include potential mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, divestitures, venture investments, etc.
  • Provides general oversight to ensure appropriate risk management engagement
  • Serves as a functional area representative to support due diligence and integration/separation activities
  • Evaluates deals to ensure alignment with Strategic Imperatives and Risk Appetite
  • Supports business areas in certain process elements related to key risk identification
  • Provides effective challenge of key risk summaries
  • Flags critical risks and/or concerns to Risk Management Leadership
  • Evaluates level of effort related to risk management integration
  • Provides flexibility to support Corporate Development Growth Venture activities which often occur with short notice and tight timelines

Strategic Risk: Partner with various stakeholders to assess and provide oversight of risk identification outputs
  • Drive strategic risk alignment across various risk programs and business areas
  • Support the development of strategies to improve risk reporting and analysis using data and technology
  • Ensure alignment with risk appetite requirements
  • Enhance reporting tools, including strategic risk reporting mechanisms and key risk indicators
  • Apply strategic thinking to ensure well managed programs and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate strong business judgment and integrity
  • Collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholders and organizations such as Strategy, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Legal, Technology, Internal Audit, Regulatory Relations, etc.
  • Write, contribute to, edit, and deliver presentations that aid in the design, development, refinement, and usage of risk management functions, practices, and activities

Basic Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 8 years of relevant risk management, insider threat, or counterintelligence experience (or equivalent)
  • At least 5 years leading a team

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Master's Degree (MBA or J.D. a plus)
  • Experience leading insider threat, internal fraud, or risk areas in fintech, financial, or national security institutions (in private or public sectors)
  • 10+ years of relevant risk management, insider threat, or counterintelligence experience (or equivalent)
  • 7+ years leading a team
