Senior Associate , Product Management, Credit Infrastructure & Data Management

Small businesses are the backbone of America and a vital part of the economy as a whole. Our goal in Capital One's Small Business Card Data Platforms is to ensure their success -- which is essential to economic growth and prosperity.

We are focused on growing new accounts with spend potential and delivering undeniably great products and services. We are investing in products and services built for heavy spending in small businesses, enhanced data and machine learning capabilities and business-grade marketing and distribution. Small Business Card has a leading edge data science and analytical team that is both driving new insights in our current business and investing in breakthrough capabilities for the future.

We're looking for a product leader that's equal parts coach, visionary, and problem solver. As the Product Owner driving SBC's Credit Infrastructure and Data strategy, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to discern the needs of SBC's data scientists, business stakeholders and define product requirements leveraging leading advance machine learning technologies and solve for automated machine learning at scale and at the speed of the business , user experience, and roadmap for future expansion. You'll be leading an established Engineering team that is dedicated to building and innovating new analytical and machine learning tools and frameworks to exploit advantages in the latest developments in cloud computing. You'll work with data scientists, engineers, analysts, architects, enterprise machine learning teams, leadership, and external vendors in this high profile role.

The ideal candidate is someone who friends and colleagues describe as:
  • Curious . You ask why, you explore, and you're not afraid to blurt out your crazy idea. Solving complex problems is addictive and you love taking on new ones.
  • Do-er . You have a bias toward action, you try things, and sometimes you fail. You don't let perfect get in the way of good. You do what needs to get done - "it's not my job" is not in your vocabulary.
  • Visionary . You can clearly outline a strategic product vision in a way that is tangible to both customers and the technologists developing the code.
  • Communicator . You can communicate complex ideas clearly, your team knows their priorities and why they're doing what they're doing. Maybe you're an introvert, or maybe you're an extrovert, but nobody accuses you of keeping them out of the loop.
  • Collaborator . You know the right people to work with for each project. You can quickly get alignment with the key stakeholders while pushing forward without delays.
  • Analytical . You aren't scared of numbers; instead, you believe they help illuminate the truth. You build models over the weekend because they are fun.
  • Wrangler . You've gotten front-end engineers to play nice with iOS developers, you can inspire an ETL developer to write creatively about her latest pipeline.
  • Fearless . Big, undefined problems don't frighten you. You're able to dive right in and put structure to them. You can work at a tiny crack until you've broken open the whole nut. You are comfortable in saying no.
  • Technical . While maybe not a hard-core coder, the developers will think of you as an "honorary member of the guild" because you can talk their language.

Key responsibilities:
  • Be the steward of a broad product vision and diligently prioritize work to maintain team focus, negotiating with other teams, and tackling blockers where necessary to drive the project to success.
  • Relentlessly push to understand user and stakeholder needs and ensure they are considered in prioritization and trade-off discussions.
  • Partner with analysts, data scientists, designers, engineers, and others to continuously refine the vision and roadmap, and to harvest insights from experiments and product/feature launches.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships and feedback loops with leaders and stakeholders who manage the downstream operations and processes that depend on the capabilities and performance of our platforms.
  • Collaborate with an extended team beyond the card platform organizations.
  • Define, socialize, and monitor key performance indicators to understand the evolution and success of the project.
  • Understand the enterprise data requirements and ensure compliance of the system with enterprise patterns.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or military experience
  • At least 1 year of product management experience or at least 1 year of experience in product design, agile delivery, business analysis, data science, or software engineering

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering
  • 1+ years translating business strategy or analysis into consumer facing digital products
  • 1+ years of experience working on core product platforms powering digital experiences
  • 1+ years working with cross functional teams as a product owner in an agile development process
