Sr. Director - Commercial Credit Officer, Financial Institutions Group (FIG)

Commercial Risk & Analytics (CR&A) is recruiting for a Sr. Director to serve as the Senior Credit Officer covering the Financial Institutions Group's (FIG) focus on non-bank consumer loan originators. The ideal candidate has experience with understanding the inherent credit and non-credit risk drivers and historical as well as potential future volatility of consumer loan loss levels. Consumer Asset sectors include Indirect Auto loans (deep subprime through prime), unsecured installment loans, Point-of-Sale lending platforms, residential mortgages (both agency warehouse and non-agency jumbo) and today's new FinTech sector in general.

Experience with structuring and modeling repayment scenarios in Asset Backed securitization, as well as experience with negotiating loan structure covenant protections and awareness of current competitive conditions in the market are preferred.

The Credit Officer will be a key strategic partner and collaborate with and credibly challenge the FIG Line of Business (LOB) Credit Underwriters and Relationship Management teams. Key focus will be to due diligence and analyze prospective client business models for credit loss resilience as well as non-credit risks such as Fraud, AML and Reputation Risks. The Credit Officer is a key partner and decision maker through the entire credit process from identifying attractive sectors and clients, approving deals, structuring deals, advising on legal contract documentation, and ongoing portfolio surveillance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to Risk Assessments, Managing the Credit Approval Process, and On-going Portfolio Management as detailed below:

Risk Assessment:
- Identify the key historical (and future) credit (and non-credit) risks related to a specific loan deal.
- Develop a well-informed and forward-looking view of the business and the expected volatility of the assets being financed/securitized
- Evaluate the inputs and results of cash flow models to run stressed asset performance scenarios to determine resilience of the liability structure
- Evaluate and approve the financial strength of asset servicers
- Provide front-end structuring guidance to business partners and negotiate acceptable solutions that prudently balance risk and return
- Be a strategic thought leader with the Line of Business as they develop new credit products and evaluate new asset classes
- Participate and inspect on-site due diligence sessions at the client's office for both new and existing transactions

Manage Credit Approval Process:
- Ensure all credit exposures and deal renewals/amendments are approved in accordance with Underwriting Standards and are appropriately Risk Rated
- Oversee written credit analysis on the transactions
- Approve a credit structure appropriate for the risk profile of the Seller/Servicer and the underlying assets

- Advise on transaction legal documentation to ensure terms are appropriate and consistent with credit approval

On-going Portfolio Management:
- Continuously monitor the credit quality of each transaction in the portfolio
- Ensure risk ratings are accurate and are based on a forward-looking view
- Identify deteriorating credits and take appropriate action to mitigate risk
- Work closely with middle office to ensure accuracy of credit system data
- Collaborate with the Business as a Subject Matter Expert on regulatory and/or compliance requirements

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least 10 years of experience with evaluating risks in consumer lending, structured finance or asset securitization for consumer loan products

Preferred Qualifications
- At least 15 years experience with secured lending, structured finance or securitization for consumer loan products through the business cycle

- At least 10 years experience as a Senior Risk Officer role at a consumer lending business or FinTech company developing products, strategies, and evaluating non-credit business risks that could result in losses

- Deep understanding for understanding Rating Agency frameworks and outcomes in evaluating Originator and Servicer risks as well as risk attachment points for ratings of various debt tranches
- At least 10 years of experience leading due diligence teams in evaluating credit and non-credit risks for consumer loan platforms
- Broad understanding of competitor debt product offerings, both bank loans and capital markets products

- Continuous improvement mindset

- At least 2 years of people leadership experience
