The University of Maryland’s Department of Transportation Services is seeking an energetic and creative Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications to develop and implement a variety of strategies to promote all aspects of a large, comprehensive university department which handles all parking, transit, biking, and alternative transportation services.

While reporting to the Executive Director, this position will support strategic planning and execution of marketing communications for internal and external stakeholders. Specifically, this role is responsible for positively marketing the department’s mission and community integration goals. This role also provides efficiently planned and well-crafted marketing and public relations communications to student, faculty/staff and visitors.

This position is responsible for shaping the perceptions of the campus community as it pertains to the vital role of the Department of Transportation Services on the University of Maryland campus.

This position is also responsible for the overall creation of marketing plans, strategies and insights that meet departmental goals. In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Create and implement a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program.
  • Create and review effective written and multimedia content for the department’s website, print and digital communications, and social media.
  • Manage marketing and outreach initiatives to engage the campus community in departmental programs and services to increase awareness and participation.
  • Oversee development of written content, design, production and distribution of the many departmental publications.
  • Work closely with the senior management team and assist in the overall management of the department.
  • Work closely with divisional colleagues and the university’s Office of Marketing and Communications while dealing with media and other sensitive external and internal communications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of seven years of professional experience with four years being in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing, editing, proofreading, and public presentation skills.
  • Ability to create marketing pieces in a variety of media and formats.
  • Thorough understanding of communications best practices, tools and trends.
  • Well-versed in social media content creation strategies, social media listening tactics and analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver engaging presentations to large and small audiences at all levels of an organization.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities.

Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with a concentration in communications, journalism, marketing, English or related field.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience working with a senior leadership team.
  • Prior work experience in a university setting.

Compensation:

  • High 90’s depending on relevant skills and experience.
