Arc XP is a cloud-based digital experience platform that helps enterprise companies, retail brands and media and entertainment organizations create and distribute content, drive digital commerce, and deliver powerful multichannel experiences. A division of The Washington Post, Arc XP has powered the digital transformation of customers across the globe, currently serving over 1,900 sites in more than 25 countries that reach nearly 2 billion unique visitors monthly.

Arc XP, a division of The Washington Post is seeking an Engineering Lead to manage a small backend team within our Content Platform. This team will complete large projects enhancing our content platform, which powers more than 1500 sites across 24 countries, reaching more than 1.5 billion unique users. You will assemble a high-performing team and work alongside them to take complex projects from requirements gathering to design, planning, implementation, testing, release, support, and monitoring. This role is located in CT or ET hours and reports to the manager of the Publishing Platform.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble a high-performing team by recruiting, coaching, and retaining team members. Grow company talent by providing appropriately challenging work, devoting one-on-one time to listening, providing constructive evaluative feedback, and supporting them in pursuing appropriate opportunities for advancement or inspiration.
  • Fulfill our SLAs (service-level agreements) by participating in on-call, supporting the team in resolving incidents, producing RCAs, and implementing best practices.
  • Deliver value regularly by practicing effective agile development and change management. Deliver impactful projects by selecting incremental milestones and iterating. Chart a path to company objectives by collaborating with leadership and your team's product manager to establish and maintain a roadmap.
  • Earn customer trust by upholding security best practices and participating in Arc's security processes.
  • Meet technical challenges by combining custom development, open source solutions, and prudent selection of third-party service providers. Set a high bar for quality through automated testing, peer review, and observability technologies.
  • Design technical solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements by collaborating with your team, stakeholders, experts within the company, and appropriate consultants.


Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience managing engineers or successfully mentoring peers.
  • Experience leading the implementation of technical projects.
  • Proficiency with one or more server-side programming languages, such as Go or Node.js
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Preferred: Experience with relational or document databases.
  • Preferred: Experience with scalable cloud-based applications.
  • Preferred: Expertise delivering REST or GraphQL APIs at scale.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with event-processing technologies.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status

The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The salary range for this position is:
$130,100.00 - $216,900.00

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
