Job Description

We are hiring a hands-on engineering lead to join a backend engineering team responsible for Arc's content management system. We strive toward excellence, using solution designs and RCAs to think long-term. We follow a scrum and devops model to foster teams that self-organize and build each other up to meet challenges. We keep clarity by focusing on our stakeholders and delivering frequently. In 2022, we plan to take on major projects in multiple areas.

In this role, you will begin by leading a small team to migrate existing customers onto our next-generation document management system, after which you and your team will take on new projects. This position is located in CT or ET hours.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of backend engineers, including mentoring, goal-setting, and performance reviews.
  • Manage complex technical projects in an Agile process, including design, implementation, instrumentation, validation, deployment, and support.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand customer needs. Collaborate with your team to design solutions to meet them.
  • Foster an inclusive team through servant leadership, participating in agile activities, engineering activities, and our on-call support rotation. Encourage and model growth through self-reflection.
  • Continue learning and growing as an engineer and people leader.
  • Track and manage your team's expenses.


Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years experience in software engineering.
  • Experience managing engineers.
  • Experience leading the implementation of technical products.
  • Experience hiring and mentoring junior and senior software engineers.
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for automated testing.
  • Proficiency with one or more server-side programming languages.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise with relational databases.
  • 2+ years of management experience.
  • Experience architecting and implementing scalable SaaS or Cloud-based applications.
  • Experience analyzing application and cloud environment performance.
  • Experience using or scripting in a POSIX shell (e.g. Linux, BSD, macOS).
  • Experience analyzing application and cloud environment performance.
  • Experience with devops teams that own the full engineering lifecycle.


Nice-to-haves
  • Experience developing or integrating with GraphQL APIs.
  • Proficiency with Go or Node.js.
  • Experience with server-side networking, proxying, and caching.
  • Experience building applications using event-processing systems and streaming or messaging technologies, such as Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, or SNS.
  • Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks.
  • Expertise with document databases.
  • Experience implementing continuous-integration tools and patterns.
