Job Description

The Assistant Principal (AP) supports the Principal in leading the instructional program and ensures its alignment with division regulations for curriculum design and assessment. Provides and promotes a state-of-the-art curriculum and superior instructional delivery for the success of all students. The AP supports the school and works collaboratively with the principal to maintain the educational programs, consistent with community characteristics and school division goals and practices.

This job is a direct report to the school Principal.

Qualifications

Education: Master's degree required.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required or ability to obtain one with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision K-12 within 90 days of hire.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Administrative and teaching experience related to working in socio-economically and culturally diverse school settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based curriculum design, assessment, and instructional practices.
  • Documented experience in leading elementary educational program development and implementation, including professional development in evidence-based best practices for diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, administrators, families, and community members.

Essential Functions

The candidate for this position assists the principal with:
  • Selecting, assigning, orientation, and evaluating staff.
  • Developing, supervising, and evaluating the instructional program.
  • Preparing the school budget and the master schedule.
  • Formulating and implementing professional development activities.
  • Interpreting and enforcing Board policies and regulations as well as school mission and goals.
  • Supervising the use and maintenance of facilities and evaluating custodians.
  • Supervising and coordinating student discipline and welfare.
  • Contributing to the school mission and goals to provide a positive learning climate and supportive community environment.
  • May be assigned other tasks and responsibilities as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment for the school and division.

Clearances
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
