LifeguardGeorge Mason University, Mason Recreation within the Division of University Life invites applications for Lifeguards. This position is directly supervised by the Coordinator of Aquatics, and will assist in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:Guard and monitor pool-related activities and patrons closely in the water and on the pool deck throughout the shift and identify any safety issues;Enforce facility policies and procedures;Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool by performing assigned tasks for pool maintenance;Adhere to and execute the department's and facility's Emergency Action Plan;Attend monthly in-service training;Working knowledge of programs, services, and events scheduled within the Aquatic and Fitness Center;Working with a variety of University and non-University programs ranging from Athletics, Fitness, Intramurals, Club Sports, Community Rentals, and more;Embrace and foster our core values (Education, Culture, Fitness & Wellness, and Leadership);Maintain an acceptable level of "readiness" through a personal commitment to excellence in the area of fitness, knowledge, skill proficiency, and professionalism; other duties as assigned; andBeing a positive representative of Mason Recreation.Required Qualifications:All student employees are required to be trained in Lifeguarding, CPR for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens. For students that do not already possess these certifications, training will be provided by the department upon being hired. Other requirements related to the position include:Demonstrated ability to swim in deep water;Availability to work an average of 6 hours up to 30 hours per week;Demonstrated communication skills;Demonstrated customer service skills; andWillingness to learn and grow.Program Description:Mason Recreation creates an atmosphere that encourages individuals to develop lifelong involvement in recreation, fitness wellness activities through both structured and informal opportunities that meet the dynamic needs of our diverse community. Mason Recreation provides opportunities for students, faculty/staff, alumni, and community members to participate in a variety of educational and fitness programs. Programs and services include group exercise, indoor cycling, yoga/Pilates, personal training, fitness-related clinics, and workshops, as well as health, wellness-related events, as well as aquatic-related activities. Intramural and Club sports are further activities that enhance the Mason Recreation experience and offerings. The Lifeguard is a vital part of our organization and represents the safety of our facility.
