AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP's reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP's mission and value through one, integrated voice.

The Director of Product Design will inspire and empower high-performing UX/UI designers in defining and delivering compelling and seamless user experiences. The ideal candidate is both a leader and successful people manager who will help guide the vision of our consumer centered products. The design leader will play a key role in stakeholder management, collaborating with product, technology and editorial to meet our mission and business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, and be accountable for, the product design process that leads to shipping impactful, high-quality work across AARP's digital products.
  • Co-create the conditions for successful collaboration between product and development to bring new concepts and products that adhere to user-centered design principles.
  • Lead our digital design systems and pattern libraries and help bring the digital design system vision and product strategy to life.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity, learning, and constant improvement.
  • Work with analytics and audience teams to ensure attitudinal and behavioral insights are central to the teams' work and process.
  • Leads designers while evangelizing design thinking methodologies across the organization.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS or MA/MS in design-related field, or equivalent experience. Design professional with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years in previous leadership roles and can effectively oversee the quality of our digital team's work.
  • Record of shipping excellent UX with impact, in a managerial capacity.
  • Adept at influencing and driving alignment on product decisions across functions and levels.
  • Able to present and explain design effectively to audiences of all functions and backgrounds.
  • Deep understanding of how qualitative and quantitative research inform product and design decisions.
  • This is a telework eligible position.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
