Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire and experienced Special Education Teacher who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

As the Special Education Teacher, you will:
•Develop and facilitate an educational program/groups that promote academic, social, and other formative skills, using a thematic curriculum based on core subject areas and state standards to meet the needs of students while hospitalized or attending PHP.
•Liaison with the patient's schools, both to obtain collateral information and to advocate for their needs in school (e.g., providing letters for 504 plans or IEP).
•Develop more long-term academic support plans for patients with extended hospitalizations.
•Demonstrate knowledge of emotional disturbance and ability to establish therapeutic relationships with students as it contributes to their academic, clinical, and behavioral growth and development.
•Administer effective and appropriate strategies during crisis situations.
•Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, colleagues, students, parents/guardians, and treatment team.
•Exhibit flexibility and adapt quickly to changes when confronted with high levels of work stress.

Qualifications include:
•Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
•Bachelor's degree in Special Education, or equivalent, Master's preferred.
•Certification by MSDE, or eligible
•Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in special education is required
•Experience teaching students with ED preferred
