Grant Writer and Proposal Specialist, School of BusinessThe George Mason University, School of Business, invites applications for the position of Grant Writer and Proposal Specialist. The Grant Writer and Proposal Specialist identifies funding sources, provides grant writing support and facilitates proposal development. The Grant Writer and Proposal Specialist is a full-time staff position with full benefits.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:The Grant Writer and Proposal Specialist has responsibilities in the following areas:Facilitate and coordinate the creation and submission of research proposals:Assist PIs with proposal development interpreting grant solicitation requirement, develop proposal writing plans and timelines, coordinate and oversee proposal team responsibilities, and ensure that all proposal development tasks are completed in accordance with internal and external deadlines;Coordinate timely submission of qualified proposals, including supporting documentation. Serve as liaison with the University Sponsored Programs Office during pre- and post-award periods;Track funding opportunities and inform collaborators and partners of potential grant funding; coordinate and manage team efforts to identify opportunities;Provide guidance and support to PIs, project coordinators and others regarding grant guidelines and procedures governing state, federal, and private grant proposal submissions and reviewer expectations;Coordinate with individuals at various levels and offices within the School of Business and in OSP to help shepherd projects through the proposal development and submission process;Ensure successful integration of all grant components and compliance with all funding solicitation and sponsor requirements; cross-walking the proposal content with the solicitation requirements; includes collaborating with other proposal development staff, department/college fiscal and administrative staff, and staff in Office of Sponsored Programs;Participate in meetings or discovery activities to inform assignments; keep informed regarding relevant topics and initiatives, particularly topics related to grant writing and sponsor expectations/guidelines;Identify elements of proposals that may need to be included in proposal budgets, and identify appropriate departmental or centralized administrative staff to assist with technical budget development; andMaintain confidentiality of proposal elements at all times.Grant Writing and Editing:Contribute to the grant application writing and provide comprehensive editorial review of research proposals in close collaboration with researchers/principal investigators (PIs), or Center Directors;Work collaboratively with PIs and other proposal faculty drafting non-technical sections as well as providing significant input into the content, organization, wording, and tone of the full document;Assist with formatting and editing of figures and other graphical proposal elements;Proofread/edit written copy prior to submission, ensuring readability, typographical/grammatical correctness, appropriate formatting, and completeness; andMaintain professional and collegial relationships with PIs.Build a Repository of Proposal and Proposal Section Exemplars as an outcome of past School based proposal work:Identify proposal elements (e.g., Facilities, Budget Justification, Post-Doctoral Mentoring Plan, Data and Safety Monitoring Plan, etc.) for specific funding agencies (NSF, NIH, DoD, Dept of Ed., etc.);Create templates and a repository of standard proposal elements;Reach out to faculty to request permission to share funded proposal exemplars with other faculty; andWork with SBUS Centers and the Dean's office to identify proposal exemplars.Other Duties as Assigned:Create and manage special events and projects as assigned by leadership in the Office of Student Success and Academic Services.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or other relevant writing-focused or scientific field, or equivalent education and experience;Knowledge of federal funding opportunities, various funding agency or Foundations requirements and proposal submission procedures;Experience in reading, comprehending, interpreting and adhering to government regulations and proposal guidelines;Experience in developing, writing and submitting grant applications;Experience in designing resource tools, materials and presentations for writing proposals;Experience in managing, organizing and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects effectively to meet internal and external deadlines;Evidence of research relationships with external funding sponsors and agencies;Excellent technical and/or research proposal writing skills; andExperience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point).Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of team science;Ability to work well with co-workers and maintain confidentiality;Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with diverse faculty, staff and administrators across multiple disciplines and administrative offices;Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a diverse and collaborative environment;Ability to be flexible, well-organized, inquisitive, resourceful, detail-oriented, creative and ethical;Understanding of university sponsored programs and grant procedures;Strong communication, interpersonal and diplomatic skills; andExcellent time management and organizational skills with experience setting project schedules.
