With a mission to produce science that enhances society, create clear career pathways for Mason students, and enhance economic development in the region and the nation, COS undertakes pioneering research endeavors that offer insight and solutions to the complex issues that challenge today's world.Responsibilities:The incumbent will provide academic advising and student affairs support for undergraduate students in the College of Science. The Undergraduate Student Coordinator must be familiar with all academic programs (majors, minors and certificates) offered by the College of Science and all academic policies that pertain to the undergraduate student population. He/she must be able to work closely with departmental advisors and seamlessly augment the advising power of the College. This incumbent must be familiar with the university's student services so as to be able to direct students to the appropriate offices or individuals within or outside of the College. An ability to work effectively with students from the prospective stage through the alumni stage is essential. The incumbent is part of a team that seeks to be proactive with respect to activities that can improve the student experience in the College of Science.Required Qualifications:Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience with student affairs activities such as the creation and coordination of convocation and orientation;.Understanding of the undergraduate academic programs in the College of Science and undergraduate academic policies;Experience working in a higher education environment;Genuine interest in nurturing the academic growth of students;Ability to operate independently and as a team member;Exceptional organizational and communication skills;Well-honed attention to detail and ability to multitask;Outstanding customer service skills; andAbility to effectively use student advising software applications and university administrative systems.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with Ellucian Banner and Navigate Systems; andMaster's degree.
