Under general supervision performs preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic, electrical and mechanical components at a 67-MGD Wastewater Treatment plant. Duties to also include troubleshooting the repairs and programming of Programmable Logic Controls (PLC's), Supervisory Control Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems and associated equipment used in automated process control. Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation such as flow level and analytical transmitters; provides assistance to the instrumentation supervisor in coordinating the daily work activities and technical assessment of equipment and component failure. Also performs other related duties as required; utilize personal computers for online time and attendance, creating and processing work orders and requisitioning parts and materials.

Note: S ubject to 24-hour call back and must therefore be able to work emergency overtime.

Illustrative Duties

• Performs lead work in the installation, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and electronic equipment used in a wastewater treatment plant, pumping/flow metering stations, atmospheric testing, or air monitoring devices used on emergency response vehicles, precipitation gauges, remote data logging hardware and telemetry for automated data collection, central processing and reporting;
• Monitors all instrumentation and identifies problems;
• Investigates and analyzes equipment failures on multigenerational equipment via monitoring on laptops and visual inspections and corrects any malfunctions;
• Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management system and/or Enterprise Asset Management system to monitor, create and close out work orders;
• Utilizes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems to identify, troubleshoot and prioritize plant operation or pumping flow metering stations preventative and corrective maintenance problems;
• Performs ongoing preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA);
• Installs new instrumentation, tests to ensure specifications are met and monitors via laptop;
• Troubleshoots and calibrates SCADA instruments and meters and keeps them clean;
• Maintains records on parts inventory and on testing, hours, calibration and repairs of all
• instruments;
• Leads and provides daily training of the less experienced instrument technicians;
• Provides input to Supervisor for performance appraisals;
• Effectively communicates with customers, employees and supervisors;
• Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;
• Reports and monitors unsafe working conditions;
• Complies with safety competencies.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of electronics theory and of the methods and practices of electronic equipment repair;
• Thorough knowledge of the functioning and maintenance of process control instrumentation and
• electronic equipment;
• Thorough knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA), Computerized Maintenance Systems (CMMS) and Enterprise Asset Management systems (EAM);
• Thorough knowledge of supply policies and procedures;
• Knowledge of safe work practices as they relate to wastewater instrumentation work;
• Ability to locate and correct defects in electronic and instrumentation devices;
• Ability to program, manage and utilize SCADA and related software;
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work from circuit diagrams and manufacturer's manuals;

• Ability to read and interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and manuals;

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education; completion of a vocation course in electronics, and five years of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic/electrical equipment found in water or wastewater utilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid driver's license

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must have a minimum of three years experience industrial instrumentation technician or various levels of certification issued by Instrument Society Association (ISA) or equivalent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lift 50 pounds. Climb ladders, work in confined spaces. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
