About Early Childhood Academy Public Charter School
Founded in 2005, Early Childhood Academy Public Charter School (ECA) was chartered to provide early childhood students in one of the most economically disadvantaged areas of the city with a strong language and literacy base on which to become well prepared for the rigor of middle school and high school. Early Childhood Academy is a free and public charter school, open to all preschool through third grade children residing in the District of Columbia.
ECA's mission is to foster the academic and social/emotional growth and development of each student in a safe and holistic learning environment that will equip all students with the knowledge and tools to become high achievers, proficient readers, and critical thinkers who will thrive for a lifetime as productive and caring citizens.
ECA seeks to maintain a school in which student growth and learning is always at the forefront of every decision and action performed by all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and administrators. This vision is being realized through ongoing professional development to improve the school's Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). PLCs encourage teachers and staff to: 1)work collaboratively, not in isolation; 2) focus on learning, not teaching; and 3) focus on results, not intentions. Through PLCs' collaborative review and analyses of data to inform and assess instructional strategies, ECA believes its vision is achievable.ECA offers all full-time employees a number of benefits, including medical and dental insurance, short and long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a 403B retirement program. All twelve-month employees receive vacation and sick leave. Teachers and associate teachers receive sick leave and work a ten-month cycle from mid-August to mid-June.
