    Research Economists have open-ended promotion potential. Research accomplishments & their impact on the duties & responsibilities of positions are evaluated periodically. The grade level is limited only by the individual's demonstrated ability to perform research of recognized importance to science & technology. Final grade level may be determined by a peer review panel.

    BASIC REQUIREMENT
    A. Degree: A bachelor's (or higher) degree in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus;

    OR

    B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    In addition to the Basic Requirement listed above, you must meet the required specialized experience below:

    GS-14 - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes: 1) Primary authorship of publications, products, or techniques that are of considerable interest and value to the field of commodity cost of production; 2) Selection to serve on important committees and review panels of technical groups and professional organizations; and 3) Consultation by users and other researchers who are respected in their fields of study.

    GS-15 - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes: 1) Primary authorship of a number of important papers, models, theories, and/or techniques that impact the advancement of or are accepted as authoritative in the field of commodity cost of production; 2) Recognition by the scientific community as an authority in the field; and 3) Experience participating in symposia that define the state of the discipline or introduce new areas in the field.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
