The Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot program is searching for an entry level Computer Operations Coordinator to manage its competition systems.
CyberPatriot the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association (AFA) to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. The three CyberPatriot Programs are The National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, AFA Cybercamps, and the Elementary School Cyber Education Initiative.
Key areas of responsibility
Planning. Assist the Competition Systems and Cyber Training Manager to:
- Develop requirements for new and upgraded competition systems
- Plan competition systems to support the CyberPatriot season
- Rules recommendation and policy development
- Recommend updates to the competition design, structure, and procedures
- Plan updates of training materials for the competition
- Plan for National Finals Competition hardware, software, power, and network
Installation
- Install hardware and software to support the online competition rounds, CyberPatriot Operations Center, the National Finals Competition and events outside of the competition season
Operations
- Build, convert, rebrand, and check virtual machine images for the competition and other events
- Operate systems for online rounds of competition
- Conduct basic functions on CyberPatriot scoring servers
- Assist with preparing for and conducting international competitions
- Set up and retrieve hardware, software, and networking equipment in office and at events
- Provide Tier 1 through Tier 2 technical support for online competition rounds
- Track and publish vulnerability category statistics
- Maintain Microsoft licensing for software
- Provide technical responses to inquiries and comments on social media (e.g., Facebook)
- Conduct backups of competition software
- Assist with Microsoft Imagine technical issues
- Conduct CyberPatriot presentations
Training
- Update and create technical materials for the competition and AFA CyberCamps
- Provide training for the CyberPatriot Program Office Staff & Operations Center on competition systems
Maintenance
- Research, recommend, and maintain upgrades to hardware and software
- Assist with resolving trouble tickets or logs for competition systems
Coordination and Documentation
- Staff CyberPatriot Operations Center
- Assist with writing of instructions for Competition Rounds
- Assist with publication of The CyberSentinel newsletter as required
- Assist with the CyberPatriot Rules Book and other program documents
- Draft email and other correspondence for mass distribution
Testing
- Develop a test plan and coordinate testing of new CyberPatriot software
- Test CyberPatriot hardware
- Test multiple pieces of software with varying degrees of complexity before they are released to competitors each round
Miscellaneous
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
The successful candidate:
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and able to draft email and other documents
- Post-secondary education or enrollment in a post-secondary institution
- Must be familiar with Windows operating system security to include Control Panel and MMC
- Linux knowledge helpful, but not required. Supplemental training available
- System or network administration experience preferred, but not required
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Must be able to perform light manual labor such as taping, packing, stacking, and moving boxes weighing less than 40 pounds and pushing carts.
- Must be able to work in tight spaces to install and retrieve cable and equipment
- Must be able to work overtime and on weekends
- Must be able to travel occasionally
