Trades Helper, Automotive Shop - Facilities Management
The Trades Helperdrivesvarious pieces of equipment including forklift, floor sweeper and tractors. S/he changes and balances tires and performs oil changes and light maintenance work on EZ-Go carts. Reporting directly to the Garage Shop Supervisor in support of trade automobile mechanics, the Trades Helper has duties that include but are not limited to:
- Cleans all equipment and shop as well as washes, vacuums, parks and delivers customer vehicles.
- Keeps supervisor informed of supply/material needs to ensure that adequate inventory is maintained.
- Ensures the efficient and economic use of supplies and materials to conserve University resources.
- Changes and repairs flat tires, tire rotation and balance of all moving vehicles.
- Draws and/or requisitions supplies, parts, materials and tools needed to make repairs and uses such items economically to avoid undue costs.
- Assists automotive and bus mechanics as directed.
- Performs oil changes and light maintenance work on EZ-Go carts.
- Drives various pieces of equipment including forklift, floor sweeper and tractors.
- D rives all vehicles to District of Columbia vehicle safety inspection, c ompleting and submitting such forms and documents as may be required to ensure that such information is properly recorded and submitted.
- Uses and disposes materials in accordance with applicable environmental safety and control regulations.
- Keeps accurate records and paperwork for 100% accountability.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience in automotive equipment and shop maintenance serving as helper
- A valid driver license in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia
- Well rounded knowledge of automotive trades for which assistance will be provided
- CDL Certification preferred
