The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Assistant Director of Assessment and Data Analysis (full-time, 12 month) position. This position provides analytical and technical support for University faculty, staff and leadership to help support data-driven decisions. Other duties include: create reports for the dissemination and management of information; utilizes valid and reliable research methods to gather, analyze, and report data on issues relevant to student learning and success and provides creative and resourceful solutions to complex challenges; participates in the development of original data collections in the form of surveys and focus groups; creates and maintains online assessment instruments and assessment databases, conducts statistical and qualitative analyses, and responds to ad hoc data requests; assists in supporting strategic planning, regional (SACSCOC) and specialized accreditation activities, and other university initiatives; supports administrative staff to complete their assessment plans and reports through training and data support; independently manages Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment website and coordinates updates with other staff members.

Required Education: Master’s degree in social science, education, business or related area.

Required Qualifications: Demonstrated experience managing large databases and generating reports. Experience managing data both with statistical packages/programming languages (e.g., SAS, SPSS) and Microsoft desktop applications (Excel, MS Access, Word, PowerPoint). Documented experiences providing data support and analysis to a variety of audiences. Documented knowledge of assessment theory and practice. Demonstrated ability work as a member of a team to reach common goals. Proficiency in SAS or SPSS or similar language; Skills with database, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software applications. Documented effective communication, leadership and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree and/or teaching experience. Training in use of computerized statistical packages. Experience working in an SCT Banner environment. Documented experiences providing data support and analysis to a variety of audiences working in an academic context with faculty and administrators. Documented understanding of principles of accreditation and data requirements. Knowledge of survey development and online software. Knowledge of assessment management software and web development software. Teaching or training skills. Some experience working with faculty members.
