Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the above requirements: All applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as research experience in modern non-parametric (flexible) regression methods. Experience in statistical modeling and computing, for example fitting and assessing the performance of regression models with variable selection and the use of other statistical and machine learning methods. Experience working with collaborative research teams on the statistical design and analysis of measurement experiments in the physical, medical, or biological sciences.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.

A one to three year probationary period may be required.
