The Office of the Provost at George Mason University (Mason) is looking for a detail-oriented, energetic person with experience in and passion for quality higher education to coordinate Masons SACSCOC accreditation processes. Mason is a relatively young, fast-growing, innovative Research I university with a mission to give diverse students access to our excellent academic opportunities. We seek a Director who understands regional accreditation processes and can help Mason meet and exceed regulatory responsibilities while supporting our goal to be nimble and creative in our academic programs.

Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for managing our accreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), as well as coordinating with the teams supporting the requirements of other speciality and discipline-specific accreditation and regulatory processes (for example, SARA, ABET, SCHEV, etc). Mason will be submitting our next SACSCOC Decennial Reaffirmation application 2022. The position includes responsibility for the on-going maintenance of our accreditation, including substantive change and interim reporting.

The Director will be expected to actively participate in SACS activities, and stay current with changes in accreditation standards. The Director will be responsible for communicating these changes to the Mason community, and serving as an internal consultant on regulatory issues. The Director will also assist with special projects and academic innovation initiatives, and will be expected to collaborate closely with the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, individual Schools and Colleges, Associate Provosts for Undergraduate and Graduate Education, the Quality Enhancement Plan team, and other offices. The position reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Initiatives and Services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree;
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, regional higher education accreditation
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse audience, including academic leaders, faculty, and accreditation agencies;
  • Experience using publication, presentation, database, and project management software;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of higher education academic affairs policies and procedures;
  • Ability to conduct independent research and provide interpretation and analysis. Preferred Qualifications:
  • PHD in a related field;
  • Experience managing a full institutional accreditation or reaccreditation process;
  • Experience participating in an on-site compliance visit;
  • Specific knowledge of SACSCOC requirements.
