Director of Video Production

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Director of Video Productions (DVP) will be responsible for the development of all video communications within the Office of Strategic Communications (OSC).

The DVP will be responsible for writing, producing, directing and editing all video production work that supports the OSC priorities including but not limited to: the Office of the President (messages from the president); Fundraising (donor acknowledgement, alumni engagement, stewardship, events); Admissions (student recruitment, tours, yield initiatives); Greater College Park (groundbreakings, dedications, events, and promotion of the area); University of Maryland brand (campaign, research stories, social video content, and story content for the University’s news site, Maryland Today). Approximately seventy-five videos produced per year.

The DVP is the primary technical liaison for outside video production companies, overseeing internet streaming, audio and video equipment maintenance and upgrades. Responsible for coordination of other video partners including those that manage live events. Manage and direct production crew on location shoots. Directly manage a video team: Director/Videographer, Video Editor and Graduate Assistant. Collaborate with marketing leads and communicators in and outside of the OSC. Lead on developing and producing creative visual content for campus partners. Assist with onboarding video staff from other campus units on best practices. Manage all video project timelines and budgets. Manage video department budget. Implement new techniques and procedures that allow for a more efficient and creative work environment.

The DVP will be an active participant in the OSC Directors group. Thinking and acting strategically and with superb strategic insight and judgment, he/she will lead their team to develop content reflecting the University’s brand and strategic objectives and employ a wide range of communications tactics and tools to ensure that our messages are accurate, consistent and reach target audiences with impact.

The DVP is an expert storyteller and will develop unique and compelling content to communicate key presidential, research and brand messages to targeted audiences. The DVP must ensure accuracy and consistency across all forums.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Baccalaureate degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in video production or a related field is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience and skills include: expert DSLR camera operation, advanced knowledge of Adobe Premiere, advanced knowledge of Adobe After Effects, expertise in Photoshop, knowledge of live event production, experience covering high profile press conferences, strong project management skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to manage up, down and across. 
A proven strategist who possesses superb interpersonal skills and has a demonstrated record of being able to coach and energize staff, both those reporting to him/her and others.
