Department of Mechanical Engineering

The George Mason University Department of Mechanical Engineering, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, is seeking a part-ime hourly Fiscal Support Specialist. This position will provide finance support for the Department Chair, its faculty, and undergraduate students. The position will be located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering offices located in Bull Run Hall on the Science and Technology Campus. Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to support all department financial activities including:

  • Purchasing for faculty research and student projects;
  • Reconciliations, A/P purchasing, reimbursements, payment and request forms,
  • Foundation voucher
  • Purchasing of office supplies and track processing of invoices. The candidate will be expected to understand and comply with George Mason’s fiscal policies and procedures. The candidate will also serve as the department’s equipment liaison.

    Required Qualifications: The mechanical engineering program is a newly established program, thus a self-motivated; results-driven individual who has the ability to work independently; pay attention to detail; and complete tasks within established deadlines expected for this position. Candidates must have both excellent verbal and written communication skills; should be comfortable working with a diverse population; and experience working purchasing and other finance-related matters. Candidates must have experience with Microsoft Office, and be able to navigate the internet.


Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have already gained experience and working knowledge of P-card, use of eVA, knowledge of travel authorizations and reimbursements policies and procedures.
