POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for the corporate, government agency, and foundation fundraising activities of The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and the performing arts schools that partner with The Clarice during the academic year. Fundraising activities include but are not limited to the following: build and maintain a portfolio of current and prospective institutional funders; solicit gifts from institutional prospects; secure grants and corporate sponsorships; report on funded activities and project outcomes; develop strategic plans to increase grant funding for The Clarice’s operations and any related program pertaining to the performing arts at the University; conduct and coordinate research of potential funding sources; manage proposal writing and submission process; steward and manage communication with current institutional funders; and support advocacy for the performing arts sector at the state and local level. The Assistant Director of Institutional Giving will work collaboratively with appropriate performing arts, University Relations, College of Arts & Humanities, Research Administration, and University Government Relations staff to ensure that fundraising activities are coordinated with the University’s efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
At least five years of relevant successful development experience, including initiating and building relationships with institutional prospects in person, proposal writing, and a demonstrated record of superior performance in securing donations from corporations, government agencies, and foundations. The candidate should be passionate about the performing arts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates ability to make cold calls and develop cultivation and solicitation strategies. Knowledge and ability to write proposals and applications, demonstrated knowledge of best practices in institutional fundraising as well as knowledge of budgeting, grant tracking and reporting procedures. Experience in working and communicating with program officers. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office and with databases. Superior written and oral communication skills and ability to work effectively under deadlines. Excellent organizational and management skills. Must thrive in a collaborative team environment.
